It is so much easier and I get perfect borders every time. it's easy to sew a pieced border this way as an extra block on each end of the row and cross the top and bottom.
What a great tip! I'm going to try it. Borders make me nuts. Thanks, Onebyone!
My little tip is this: If I'm not enjoying the process I let it go and move on. Just like reading a book. Life is too short and there are too many quilts and books out there for me to work on one I don't enjoy. Happy New Year, friends!

Don’t save the “ best” fabric. Use it or someone else will use it after you’re gone.

Enjoy the process and don't get hung up on perfection. Learn from mistakes and keep sewing - cause it's what we love to do. (We are much harder on ourselves than others - so don't sweat the small stuff!)

Make a list of things you absolutely need for a project. (Fabric stores are like a candy store to a kid.) Take a swatch with you to avoid color mistakes. (ufo fabrics abound in my stash) Clean up after each project. (A fresh start really helps you to enjoy the process) Last but not least, do the best work you can do. Trying new things isn't hard, just different than what you have done in the past. Go slow and understand what the directions are saying.

Yes! I am sewing blocks together for a quilt that I'm lucky if the points are pointy three out of five. The blocks are all hsts. Ugh. The overall pattern is very nice and that is what I want to see not each individual point. If I was frustrated with all the points I would give up and not have a nice quilt. It's this pattern: Swirlygig by RagamuffinQuilts. Free download.

I like this. Good reason to toss some UFO’s.
