Should I quilt diagonal lines, straight lines or wavy lines on my doggo quilt?

I mark my straight lines with a Crayola Washable marker and use a yard stick. Even if you decide to use a serpentine stitch, i would stitch right down the middle of the marked line. Try to mark corner to corner first and move the yard stick out from that point for new markings. Stay way from the red Crayola marker...sometimes it doesn't all wash out. I use gren or blue mostly.

That's a great quilt for your first (or any). I like your color choices. I've quilted a lot of "I Spy" quilts, which of course, have multi colors. For top thread, I've used Gutermann 111 (available at JoAnn). It's an invisible thread that's 100% polyester. There are some people who are averse to clear thread because of problems with some brands in the past. I figure that I use polyester thread all the time, so why should this be any different?
I would also suggest a wavy line.

I also like to use the serpentine stitch and make it as long and wide as possible. It looks like a line of S's. If you use the clear thread, use regular thread in the bobbin to coordinate with the backing. It's easier. I also use my walking foot. Nice job on your quilt.
