Dedemac, I have EQ8, so when I need to figure out a center square, I quickly draw it up and then preview the rotary cutting directions to get the exact size. Sometimes I'll draw up a block, and then eliminate lines so I can get an outside measure for a pieced center block. Before that, I'd draw them up by hand and measure. Going to the nearest 1/16" of an inch has always been good enough. I cut my corners a bit on the larger size and then trim down to exact once they are all sewn on.
One of the really nice things with EQ8 is the ability to resize a block. So if I have one that is difficult to design at the actual size, I'll design it in a size that is easier, then when I go to print the cutting directions out, I tell it I want a different size. Such as drawing up a block as a 12" block, and then printing it out as 9" . I know I can add 12 divides on a 9" block, but then the lines don't easily match up with the side rulers and that often throws me off.

@Dedemac, here's the math for a square in a square if you need it, if you don't have EQ.
finish sq 5" divided by 1.414 = 3.536
3.5 add seam allowance .5 = 4" sq center cut
.036 is almost 4 hundredths of an inch, I say it doesn't matter, but it is about 5 threads worth in good quilting fabric 150/inch, so you can add 1/32 inch to your square if you want or need to. It would be 1/4 of the 1/8 tick on a rotary cutting ruler.
One of the reasons I say it doesn't matter, is if the center sq is a scootch smaller than it "should be", you are less likely to lose your points.
your triangles are 5" divided by 2 = 2 1/2" HST, that is finished, you're starting with 3" strip of fabric and cutting them with essential triangle, or a good FG quilting ruler.

@Mkotch Pretty blocks. I really like your purple neutral. (don't mind me focusing on something odd, it's me not your blocks
)
@Macybaby covered corners? you mean like sq in the corner of bigger bit and you sew corner to corner & leave the corner on, or trim it? Some call them "flippy corners." I hate em too. I've been writing up my own instructions to each block. I've got less than half to do. I was thinking the same thing, just go ahead and cut the blocks out. I've been working on that.
man, looking close at my blocks, I am a really bad presser.

Wow QuiltMouse, I love your color scheme.
Quossum, very cool. Your block has great contrast.
I'm finally done working at (and attending) a sewing/quilting expo.
Now I can work on my March blocks! And apply my new ruler quilting skills, LOL.

@quiltmouse & @Quossum Your blocks are fantastic. I wish I had subbed the pink from the center of the one I did, but I'm not going to unsew it. I too am doing the 12 block so only need to make one a month.

Quossum, the colors in your block are very dynamic. Very Pretty,
gorgeous block belfrybat.
I was working at my cutting table today. Wrote up the rest of the 20 blocks. We've received instructions for 6. Earlier this week, I changed one block, one of the framed ones. I was writing up instructions cut 2-3/8", etc. Then, I decided since it was so detailed, I might as well make it while it was fresh in my head. Shh, don't tell Aby
I had 4-5 blocks left to write up, and I finished them. Oddly, one block was crossed through, and noted "cut". I couldn't for the life of me figure where the bits were. Looked all over the cutting room. Hmm. That looked familiar. Ah-ha! it was one of this month's block, no longer cut, but made. SMH. Sometimes, I just don't know about me. ...chuckling
I got two blocks cut and plated in a dishpan. (Square paper plates from Dollar Tree sure are handy) One block I struggled with the four center edge dark blue squares. I had gone really dark olive with the 4 green squares that surround the center sq, and nothing was working. I've used the navy daisies several times. No reason I couldn't again, but the olive & navy weren't playing nice.
I got out an old (2010's) connecting threads bin with a pile of FQ. No blues. Hmmm? Scrolly black? really? haven't used black yet, but I could a couple more times and it would be fine. Laid all the cut bits and interviewed the scrolly black. Why, I do believe you're hired. One of the reasons the black worked, is the red I used had little black flower pots for it's white daisies.
