@dpendleton ... Thanks! To clarify from my comments last night ... I would only slice off the two 2-1/2" strips on the left and right of each 4-some-block. Stitch all back together. Then do the two 2-1/2" slices on the other two sides. Stitch ... and presto you have one darned pretty block ... and easy, too!

It could be quite a showy quilt no matter the colour-way you choose ... soft pastels? florals? middle of the road colourings? ... or go totally dramatic with bold colours? The stripe/background colourings could really change the looks.

Looking forward to how it goes for you, and hope you will show us your results!
    Good Luck!

Default 1" white strip seems too big

Here's a sample I made up using scraps.

The squares were 10", sewn together as QuiltE suggested, then cut off 2.5" strips and pieced in 1.5" off-white strips to finish at 1".

Then turn, rinse and repeat. Finished block measures 21+3/4" square. It would make a super fast and easy quilt.

I think the white strips are too wide. Do you think the white strips are half the width I did, 1/2" finished? Or do you think it's more like 3/4"?

I think the remaining measurements look good. Thoughts?

@dpendleton ... Looking Great! It's really ones personal preferences as to what width to do those strips. And that might change depending on what fabrics you actually use as to what width will work best.

Though I do tend to agree with you that they may be a bit overpowering at this width. You could try blowing up the online pic and scale it to see what widths they are. I did ... and I think it measured to the 1/2" finish as you suggested. Though 3/4" finished may be a little less fiddly to work with and could still look great.

Regardless you have a great start on your design ... your sample? might make a good throw cushion? Flip side could be your next sample? or have two pillows at different sizes? Bonus ... if by chance you are using the quilt fabrics for the test run ... you already have coordinating pillows made!

Have Fun! and keep us posted!

Thanks for all the tips on this pattern as I'm collecting patterns I can use a lot of my stash with for auction quilts coming up in 2 years as they just had one this month and I donated 2 quilts for them to auction off. Still waiting to hear how much they got for them though.

Wrong down all the instructions/tips given out and I'll go with the 1.0" strips finishing at .5". Got lots of whites, creams, etc. to use up.

I got inspired and have a color design in mind, so I went ahead and purchased the pattern. I figure it's a good investment so I can make multiples of this quilt without having to reverse engineer it every time. Also I think it's fair to give the designer the $$$ for the fantastic pattern.

And indeed, the cut strips are 1" wide, and when sewn are 1/2" wide. QuiltE, your analytical eye was spot on!

I'm flabbergasted that each individual 10" square is cut and the strips sewn into each square, then turned and cut again and strips sewn in between.

I can't imagine how difficult it would be to match up all those narrow strips inside each block. Ew.

Also I think there's a design flaw here - when you flip and turn you need an 11" strip now instead of 10" because of the added width...

So now I see the value in cutting 1" by WOF, cut that in half (22-23" long). Then I sew all four squares together and the resulting length I need for the strips is 19.5" so I'm good.

I'm so glad there's sashing between blocks and between rows, because I'm not a master at matching up tiny seams.

The price of the pattern was worth getting a paper coloring sheet for all 3 quilt sizes (baby blanket, throw, and queen/king sized bed, 109"x109").

Finally - Cotton and Joy offers online coloring pages for all of their quilt patterns (in all sizes) using the PreQuilt program at https://app.prequilt.com/market/cottonandjoy. I'm figuring out how to edit colors, it looks very useful!
