    Macybaby I usually don't cut ahead for the same reasons you note. But I will follow the directions as they are published - it just takes me longer as I'm cutting as I do.

    I use muslin all the time for both top and backing. My favourite is Marshall Dry Goods pre shrunk perma-press which is the same weight and quality as Roc Lon, unfortunately now discontinued.
